Visiting

I believe I left off where we were going in to see Frank and John in Scottsdale on Saturday.  We went over in the afternoon and enjoyed some time at their pool.  We then went up to their unit, changed, and headed out to find a place for dinner.

Not sure what’s wrong with Gerard in this photo — like he was sitting on something.

We lucked out and got a table on the patio next to the street.  This old boat went by as we were having dinner on the patio.

So they went back to Vancouver on Monday (holiday in BC).  But we will see them again in Palm Springs in early March!

Sunday and Monday, we went out for some hikes.  On Monday, John and Judy arrived so we had them over for dinner Monday night.  Nice to see them here!  We’ve got a few plans for the rest of the week.

On Tuesday, we went out to Lost Dutchmen State Park and did a hike.  Beautiful spot.

Here’s the happy gang (sans moi).

We got up pretty close to the mountain where we couldn’t really go much higher without rock-climbing/mountain climbing skills.  Um, none of us have those.

We went back to their place afterward to cool down.  A couple were walking by with their dogs.  Isn’t this the sweetest thing???

Yesterday (Wednesday) we went to the Snowbirds Extravaganza in Mesa at the Convention Centre.  They had some booths set up, but that part wasn’t very big.  We went for the entertainment.  It’s all free, and they had a Canadian line-up of entertainers.  A variety of things from comedy to terrific singing.  There were 7 acts, and they were all different.  Each one only about a half hour.  Good timing as the weather down here is...like Ontario!  Well, maybe Ontario in the spring.  Raining!!! And coolish.

The photos are not good, but they were better than getting them on the stage.  The lights played havoc with photos, so I took them of the video screen.

This is Dan Hill.  He had some hits, but his big one was “Sometimes When We Touch”.  He continues to write songs.

John McDermott brought tears to my eyes.  He is such a beautiful singer, particularly known for Scottish and Irish tunes.  He ended with A Cappella of “Danny Boy”.  Absolutely beautiful.

The final act was Ian Thomas.  He can still rock it.  He played his big hits (mostly done by others, like Santana and America), ending with “Painted Ladies”, of course.

His drummer had a “Ringo” hat.  I tried to get a decent photo, but the lights made it impossible.  Trust me...it says “Ringo” on his hat.

So that brings us up-to-date.  Not too much planned today except for dinner tonight.  It rained all night and is still raining!  Hey, we’re in the desert!!!

The Last Legs of our Trip

So we left Oklahoma and arrived in Arkansas and spent the night in North Little Rock.  We had been here last year on the way south.   We decided to go for dinner in Little Rock.  It was Saturday night of the Easter weekend.  We found a brew pub called the Lost Forty Brewing Company.  Neat place.  Not too many choices for dinner, but it was fine.  We did a beer flight each to check out the different types. Thought the sign into the washroom was really neat...unique. This is the spot - in an industrial area, but very close to the Clinton Museum and Park. So we left Arkansas and entered Tennessee at Memphis...the Mississippi River divides them.  We’re going over the bridge here. We spent the night in Dickson, Tennessee, about 25 miles or so from Nashville.  So today we finished off Tennessee and also Kentucky. We crossed the Ohio River - this is the old bridge and new bridge, I guess.  Our GPS didn’t know where we were...so must be pretty n...

Getting Started

Thought I would create another blog.  It really does help me keep track of stuff for photos later.  And some people do want to read it.  That’s good, I guess.  I’m glad.  I won’t publish every day, but after I’ve got some stuff to talk about. _______________ Sorry...I don’t know what’s going on with the first line.  I’ll have to see if I can fix it. We had a leisurely morning, this morning, packing up the rest of the stuff to take along with us, and we were off!  Well, after we turned around at Bridgeport Rd to go back and get my sunglasses 😕😎 Now we’re off...about 10:45 am. Made it to the Ambassador Bridge border crossing around 2 pm.  Nicest border guard going into the U.S. in a long time.  He actually smiled, sort of.  Interstate 75 southbound is closed for about 8 miles. As we recalled, it was closed last year too.  It’s a 2-year project, replacing bridges, etc.  Anyway, it wasn’t too far out of the way to tak...

Albuquerque

Always heard of Albuquerque but have never been here, until now.  I have even committed the spelling of Albuquerque to memory. There were a couple of things we wanted to do here.  One was a hike in the Petroglyphs area and the other was to check out old town Albuquerque. So Wednesday morning we headed off to the Petroglyph National Monument.  The whole park area has lots of petroglyphs but we visited the Piedras Marcadas Canyon section which has 5000!  These were left both by the native Indian tribes and by Spanish explorers and settlers of the area. This roadrunner was out to see them too. I didn’t take photos of all 5000...are you disappointed?  But here are a couple. This one kind of reminds me of “Wilson” on Cast Away. The rock is black basalt (lava rock) formed a very long time ago.  Much of this part of New Mexico is covered in it.  I noticed it while driving on Tuesday as well. Finger painting? Very neat area to visit - and got some hiking in to...
