We’re in the ZONNNNa

We made it!  We arrived in Apache Junction, Arizona, around 2:30 this afternoon (MST). We left San Antonio Monday morning and drove to Fort Stockton for the night.  We saw this place along the way, and I said, “we’re not in ZONa yet!”   Oh, that’s OzonA.  Hmmm, we’re not there either. Fort Stockton has a very nice RV park where a lot of people hang their saddles for the night.  The RV park also had a great little cafe where you could get meals, and just take your own beer or wine, or whatever you want.  Perfect setup.  But, the sign tells you where we are — in Teeeexxxaaassssss. A lonely cactus at the side of the road. El Paso — this is minor, but it’s not the place Marty Robbins sang about. And now we’re in another state.  We rejoice after getting through the 880 miles of the State of Teeexxxxxaaaasssss. So last night we stayed in Deming, New Mexico.  A little chilly this morning — -3 C — we came all this way to get the coldest temperatures ...

Teeeexxaaassss

I had enjoyed a couple of glasses of this wine on our last night in N.O.  I tried to send a photo to David, but he didn’t get it.  Now he can see it!  Not bad at all. We left New Orleans Friday morning and headed west to Teeeexxxaaaasssss.  (You have to drawl.)   Here we are about to cross the Mississippi River in Baton Rouge. The day was spent mainly driving through Louisiana, crossing bayou after bayou.  But eventually we got there.   And here we are in Teeeexxxaaasssss.  You’d think for such a big state they’d have a big sign.  Huh. We arrived in Beaumont where we stayed the night.  While there, we got about 3 inches of rain overnight.  It poured and thundered like crazy!  I thought when we got up we’d be sitting in the middle of a lake, but it wasn’t bad at all.  It eased up enough for us to get our stuff done outside, and off we went in the rain.  It would rain off and on most of the way to San Antonio. This isn’...

Riding on the City of New Orleans

So, I’ve had some adventures with Blogger over the last couple of days, but I think it’s all straightened out now.  A new app, and there just happened to be a glitch with uploading that day.  Wouldn’t you know it. Anyway, we’re not Riding on the City of New Orleans, but we’re Residing in the City of New Orleans, for about a day and a half.  Here we are on Wednesday, just heading in — across Lake Pontchartrain on the I-10 bridge.  It’s only 5 miles long. So we set up the RV at Pontchartrain Landing.  It’s a nice spot near the lake, but only 15-20 minutes from the French Quarter, and they have a shuttle that takes us there a couple of times a day.  So it works nicely for us.  We drained the antifreeze, set up our dirt-caked RV, and got some groceries.  We had a lot of cleaning to do inside.  This is the first year we’ve had mice inside, so everything had to be removed and cleaned.  Forgot to do the mint oil thing in the fall.  We won’...

Making our Way

It was nice to receive this little note from our granddaughter before we left. Very cool, eh?  GG stands for Grandpa and Gma. Anyway, we’re making our way southwest — mostly south.  We are crossing the Ohio River here, and into Kentucky. Who knew Lincoln was born in Kentucky? We spent the night in Louisville.  This was in our breakfast room the next morning.  The pronunciation that bugs me the most is “Luhvul”.  It sounds like they have a mouthful of ping pong balls when they’re saying it.  However, I expect King Louis would be even less impressed. So we left Louisville yesterday morning, and we’re driving along and this empty transport passes us.  He’s carrying a little truck on the flatbed.  Rather cute. About an hour or so north of Nashville, but still in Kentucky, we cross into the central time zone. Hmmm - didn’t know McDonald’s had a winery!?!?  How about that. Then we were in Tennessee! Gerard teases me about this sweets brand whenever...

Getting Started

Thought I would create another blog.  It really does help me keep track of stuff for photos later.  And some people do want to read it.  That’s good, I guess.  I’m glad.  I won’t publish every day, but after I’ve got some stuff to talk about. _______________ Sorry...I don’t know what’s going on with the first line.  I’ll have to see if I can fix it. We had a leisurely morning, this morning, packing up the rest of the stuff to take along with us, and we were off!  Well, after we turned around at Bridgeport Rd to go back and get my sunglasses 😕😎 Now we’re off...about 10:45 am. Made it to the Ambassador Bridge border crossing around 2 pm.  Nicest border guard going into the U.S. in a long time.  He actually smiled, sort of.  Interstate 75 southbound is closed for about 8 miles. As we recalled, it was closed last year too.  It’s a 2-year project, replacing bridges, etc.  Anyway, it wasn’t too far out of the way to tak...
