Hiking

We’ve been out hiking a couple of days now...not too far from here, and not too long...yet.  We’ll work our way up.

What’s with the name of this area...Silly Mountain.  What a silly name — what silly idiot named this place?


This person was hanging overhead.

We enjoyed the hike around Silly Mountain.  Great views of Superstition Mountain next door.  We didn’t get many pictures though...sometimes I forget.

Later that night, I found Gerard sitting outside with the bedroom TV, watching his beloved Leafs.  Sheeeesh.  The neighbours can see him...and they’re probably not Leafs fans.


Our neighbours behind us (who own a permanent park model) came over in the afternoon and invited us to their place Saturday evening to play games.  So we gratefully accepted and had a terrific time.  They had invited another couple — and everyone got along great, and we all had a real hoot.  They have a nice little outdoor game room set up — a permanent location, bar fridge, round table.  Perfect!  We played Jokers and Marbles (I don’t know if that’s the official name, but it was fun to play).  They are from Regina, and the other couple are from Kamloops.

Yesterday, we went to Mesa Market.  This huge outdoor flea market, and we only covered about a quarter of it.  We’ll go back another weekend.  We were laughging Saturday night because Sandy, one of the people we met, was telling us about a guy who bought a pair of shorts there, and he wore them to pickle ball and during one of his first reaches for the ball, they ripped up the back.  And some other pieces of junk that people have bought there.  In spite of that, we bought some “stuff”.  You know...stuff we NEED.

So today we went up to Usery Mountain and did a hike.  On the way, this is seen on the side of another hill.


Some shots of the desert...and Gerard.  I just love the desert.  It does get hot by noon because the sky is clear, and the sun beats down.  The temperature doesn’t have to be super warm for that to happen.  But there’s just something about it I really like.  Different, I suppose.




       

                              

I think there’s a Holey Board tournament tomorrow night we’re going to.  We’ll see how that turns out!

    Love the landscape shots and the cacti! I'll have to check out that area sometime. Hey, how did Dad get his hands on my Cariboo cap? Love that he can watch the Leafs down there. They've been on a pretty good roll lately, he must be lovin it!

The Last Legs of our Trip

So we left Oklahoma and arrived in Arkansas and spent the night in North Little Rock.  We had been here last year on the way south.   We decided to go for dinner in Little Rock.  It was Saturday night of the Easter weekend.  We found a brew pub called the Lost Forty Brewing Company.  Neat place.  Not too many choices for dinner, but it was fine.  We did a beer flight each to check out the different types. Thought the sign into the washroom was really neat...unique. This is the spot - in an industrial area, but very close to the Clinton Museum and Park. So we left Arkansas and entered Tennessee at Memphis...the Mississippi River divides them.  We’re going over the bridge here. We spent the night in Dickson, Tennessee, about 25 miles or so from Nashville.  So today we finished off Tennessee and also Kentucky. We crossed the Ohio River - this is the old bridge and new bridge, I guess.  Our GPS didn’t know where we were...so must be pretty n...

Getting Started

Thought I would create another blog.  It really does help me keep track of stuff for photos later.  And some people do want to read it.  That’s good, I guess.  I’m glad.  I won’t publish every day, but after I’ve got some stuff to talk about. _______________ Sorry...I don’t know what’s going on with the first line.  I’ll have to see if I can fix it. We had a leisurely morning, this morning, packing up the rest of the stuff to take along with us, and we were off!  Well, after we turned around at Bridgeport Rd to go back and get my sunglasses 😕😎 Now we’re off...about 10:45 am. Made it to the Ambassador Bridge border crossing around 2 pm.  Nicest border guard going into the U.S. in a long time.  He actually smiled, sort of.  Interstate 75 southbound is closed for about 8 miles. As we recalled, it was closed last year too.  It’s a 2-year project, replacing bridges, etc.  Anyway, it wasn’t too far out of the way to tak...

Albuquerque

Always heard of Albuquerque but have never been here, until now.  I have even committed the spelling of Albuquerque to memory. There were a couple of things we wanted to do here.  One was a hike in the Petroglyphs area and the other was to check out old town Albuquerque. So Wednesday morning we headed off to the Petroglyph National Monument.  The whole park area has lots of petroglyphs but we visited the Piedras Marcadas Canyon section which has 5000!  These were left both by the native Indian tribes and by Spanish explorers and settlers of the area. This roadrunner was out to see them too. I didn’t take photos of all 5000...are you disappointed?  But here are a couple. This one kind of reminds me of “Wilson” on Cast Away. The rock is black basalt (lava rock) formed a very long time ago.  Much of this part of New Mexico is covered in it.  I noticed it while driving on Tuesday as well. Finger painting?
