So we’re settled here in Apache Junction next to the Superstition Mountains (below). We’ve been out for a very short hike, but we’re going for a longer one today. Gotta build up to it. Although we get out a lot at home, it’s a little different hiking in the desert in terms of heat exhaustion, etc.
So last night we had a Canada Potluck here at the park. 169 Canadians were signed up in the hall. Most were from Alberta, and BC was next, with Ontario and Saskatchewan being 3rd. A few from Manitoba, 2 from New Brunswick, and 2 from Nova Scotia.
Of course, there was your typical Roughrider fan in this middle of all this red...Al.
There were door prizes, and a 40/30/30 draw. We didn’t win any of that, but Gerard won 2 free drink tickets at the tiki bar for answering a question about the coldest recorded spot in Canada. Snag, Yukon.
Anyway, it was great fun and we met a few people. A couple next to us in the RV park (to my right here) invited us to join them at their table.
This was the buffet table. Lots of great stuff.
And some good T-shirts. Love this one below on the left.
At a table next to us was this guy with a Twonie pasted to his forehead. We had a hoot over that. I was taking the photo discreetly, so didn’t get a great shot...but you get “the picture”.
So today we plan on going for a good hike — and leaving very shortly as we’d rather get it done before the heat of the afternoon.
Looks like fun! 169 Canadians is a lot, that's practically half our population. The toonie guy is hilarious. And I'm glad Dad's years of watching the Weather Network finally paid off with two free drink tickets!
