Saturday we lazed around and didn’t do much at all. I was going to go for a hike, but there was a rodeo going on where I wanted to go and park. Darn thing. So, I didn’t bother. Just came back to the RV and we frittered the day away.
On Sunday, we went to see a spring training game in Mesa, home of the Oakland Athletics. They were playing the Kansas City Royals. Of course, most of their players were minor-leaguers, but a few recognized names appeared.
Including this guy...Ryan Goins...playing for KC now. He played the first 5 innings or so, and unfortunately for him, didn’t do well at bat, but his fielding was outstanding, as always. Gerard got his autograph and told him we’ll miss him in Toronto.
The game ended up tied 5-5, but we had left by about the 8th inning. It was just fun to experience a game in the Cactus League.
Today we booked a Steamboat tour on Dolly. First we went up to Tortilla Flat. It’s just a couple shops and restaurants in an area that was developed through mining, of course. But many places were abandoned. There’s a story about a “Lost Dutchman” who had found gold and he never told anyone where the mine was. Anyway, it’s a legend.
We had lunch at a spot in the town. Food was pretty good, I have to say. But this is what happens to people who don’t pay! Yikes!
We arrived at Canyon Lake where the steamboat tour gathers. We saw this boat when we got out of the truck. Sheesh, I hope this isn’t Dolly!
But then we saw Dolly afloat. Whew!
Canyon Lake was formed by a dam, of course. The float on the lake was really quite good. Beautiful scenery and we saw some wildlife too.
Didn’t know we’d see Bach though. Cool, eh?

There were several other rock formations they interpreted for us.
And we saw quite a few Bighorn Sheep. These are females as the horns aren’t as big as those of a ram. It’s just amazing how they move around. This was almost a sheer wall of rock. I don’t know how they do it.
She’s checking us out.
And we saw a few Bald Eagles. This guy was standing at the edge of the lake.
Yeah, I like it here better.
Beautiful bird, but it is a bird.
This is a bit blurry (I must have moved), but this ram is enjoying the Arizona sunshine on the top of that cliff.
I needed my telephoto lens to get these shots.
Can you spot the 4 sheep in this photo?
Absolutely some stunning views here. I have a whole pile of photos, but this is one.
When we got back to the dock, the ducks know people have leftover popcorn. Feeeeed meeeee!
Great day. It’s finally starting to warm up a bit. Have I mentioned it hasn’t been very warm here? When the sun is out, it’s still pleasant, but in the shade it’s very cool.
Our time here in Arizona is starting to wind down. We’ll be leaving here the end of this week and heading over to California, where we were last year.
Looks like an awesome boat tour. Definitely lots to see, and great pictures! :)
